Privacy Policy for Unstop Case Comp Tracker

Overview

Unstop Case Comp Tracker is a Chrome extension that helps users identify relevant case competitions on Unstop and organize registration and round deadlines. The extension processes and stores tracker data locally on the user's device. The publisher does not operate a server that receives this tracker data.

Information the extension processes

The extension offers two setup modes. Automatic reading from Unstop begins only after the user affirmatively chooses automatic matching on the first-run disclosure screen. Users may instead choose manual profile mode, in which the extension does not automatically read their Unstop profile, pages, registrations, or rounds.

Depending on the mode and features a user enables, the extension may process:

• profile details such as institute, gender, user type, domain, course, specialization, programme, graduation year, and course duration;
• Unstop website content and browsing activity used by the tracker, including competition or hackathon links and slugs encountered on Unstop pages, eligibility text, team size, prizes, registration dates, and round dates;
• registration status, role information, and the user's round schedule retrieved from their signed-in Unstop account;
• user-created tracker data such as favourites, personal notes, removed items, manually marked round completion, and reminder state; and
• settings and operational data such as the user's consent choice, theme and planner layout, reminder history, and the time and status of recent competition and account-data checks.

In automatic mode, this information is obtained from the Unstop page being viewed, relevant objects made available to that page in Unstop's browser storage, and Unstop page or API responses. The extension uses the user's existing signed-in Unstop session when requesting account-specific information from Unstop. It does not ask for, read, store, copy, or transmit the user's Unstop password.

How information is used

The extension uses this information only to:

• match competitions to the user's institute and profile;
• display relevant opportunities and their deadlines;
• identify competitions for which the user has registered;
• show upcoming and live rounds, allow users to mark rounds complete, and alert users when a round goes live and one hour before its deadline;
• provide favourites, filters, notes, reminders, and other tracker features; and
• refresh competition, registration, and round information from Unstop.

The information is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending, employment, housing, insurance, or other unrelated purposes.

Storage, transmission, and sharing

Tracker data is stored locally using Chrome extension storage and browser storage on the user's device. The publisher does not receive or maintain a copy of this data and does not use analytics or advertising services in the extension.

The extension communicates directly with https://unstop.com/ over HTTPS to retrieve the information required for its user-facing features. When account-specific requests are made in automatic mode, Chrome may send the user's existing Unstop session cookies to Unstop in the normal way. Unstop therefore receives those requests and processes them under Unstop's own terms and privacy practices. The extension does not disclose tracker data to the publisher, advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party.

If a user voluntarily opens a support issue on GitHub, the information they choose to include is provided to GitHub and is governed by GitHub's privacy statement. Users should not include passwords, authentication information, or other sensitive personal information in a public issue.

Retention and deletion

Data remains in local browser storage until it is changed by the user, removed through an extension feature where available, cleared through Chrome, or deleted when the extension is uninstalled. Old competition records may also be pruned automatically after their deadlines. Users can update their manually entered profile inside the extension. Because the publisher does not receive tracker data, the publisher cannot access or delete it on the user's behalf.

Security

The extension limits website access to Unstop and requests Chrome permissions for local storage, scheduled checks, and notifications. Network requests to Unstop use HTTPS. Locally stored data is protected by the security controls of Chrome and the user's operating system; users should protect access to their device and Chrome profile.

Limited use

Information handled by the extension is used only to provide or improve the extension's disclosed single purpose and user-facing features. It is not sold or used or transferred for personalized advertising. The publisher does not make tracker data available for humans to read, except for information a user explicitly chooses to provide for support or when required by law.

The extension's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

User choices

• On first use, users choose between automatic Unstop matching and a manual profile.
• Automatic profile, page, registration, and round reading does not begin until the user selects the automatic option.
• Users who choose the manual option can still enter and update profile information themselves.
• Users can remove tracked items through the extension where that control is available, clear the extension's site data in Chrome, or uninstall the extension to delete its locally stored data.

Children's privacy

The extension is intended for students and other users who are old enough to use Unstop and consent to data processing under the laws that apply to them. It is not directed to children below the applicable minimum age.

Changes to this policy

If the extension's data practices materially change, this policy will be updated before or when the changed practices take effect. The effective date at the top of the policy will identify the latest revision.
