Privacy Policy for Spotify Lyrics Pop-Out

Spotify Lyrics Pop-Out is a Chrome extension that displays synchronized lyrics for the track playing in Spotify Web.

In short: no name, email, Spotify account, password or browsing history is ever collected. Listening data is shared only if you agree in the lyrics window, it’s linked to a random ID rather than to you, and you can delete it instantly at any time.

Anonymous listening data (only if you agree)

The lyrics window asks whether you’d like to share anonymous listening data. If you say no, it asks again only occasionally (after 7 days, then 14, 28 and so on), and never again once you agree or turn sharing off on the Privacy & data page. It stays off until you agree in the lyrics window, and you can turn it off any time on the extension’s Privacy & data page. When it’s on, the extension sends our server:

• Songs played while the lyrics window is open: title, artist, album, length
• How long you listened, and where in the song you skipped or jumped ahead
• When you like a song or add it to a playlist, and at which moment in the song (never the playlist’s name)
• When you replay a song or play it on loop, and how many times
• The lyric line on screen at that moment, and whether the timing was adjusted
• The song’s language (detected from the lyrics, on your device)
• Country name only (for example, “India”), worked out by our server from the connection. No city or precise location, and the IP address itself is not saved in our database.
• Timing fixes you submit with Fix for everyone

This data is linked only to a random Data ID created on your device. It’s used to improve lyric timing for everyone and to build listening stats. Detailed listening history is deleted automatically after 24 months; only anonymous totals per song (such as “how many listeners skipped at 1:34”) are kept, and these can’t be traced back to anyone.

Data storage and sharing

Spotify Lyrics Pop-Out does not sell personal data or use data for advertising, credit decisions, or purposes unrelated to lyrics and listening stats. Track metadata is shared with LRCLIB as required to retrieve lyrics and is subject to LRCLIB’s service practices. Shared listening data is stored on our own server and is not given to anyone else.

The extension does not collect passwords, payment information, private messages, health information, or precise location data.

Window mode, dimensions, your sharing choice, and your Data ID are stored locally on your device using Chrome extension storage.

Data used to show lyrics

To check whether other listeners have corrected a song’s lyric timing, the extension asks our server for a “community fix” for the current song. That request contains only the song (title, artist, length) and the LRCLIB lyrics record number. It carries no ID, and nothing about it is saved.

The extension reads the current track title, artist, album artwork, playback position, and playback state from open.spotify.com. It sends the track title, artist, and duration to the LRCLIB service (lrclib.net) solely to find matching synchronized lyrics.

Permissions

The extension uses Chrome’s storage permission to remember preferences on your device and tabs permission to locate an open Spotify Web tab and communicate with it. Host access is limited to open.spotify.com for playback information and lrclib.net for lyric lookup.

Delete your data

You can delete everything linked to your Data ID in two ways. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your listening history and timing-fix votes are erased, and that Data ID can never be used again.

From the extension: open the Privacy & data page (see below) and click Delete my data.

From this page: paste your Data ID below.

Where to find your Data ID

1. In Chrome, right-click the Spotify Lyrics Pop-Out icon in the toolbar (or click the puzzle-piece icon, then ⋮ next to Spotify Lyrics Pop-Out) and choose Options. You can also open it from the Details button on the sharing question in the lyrics window.
2. The Privacy & data page opens. Under Your data, find Data ID and click Copy.

It looks like 1b4e28ba-2fa1-4d2a-9b3c-2f9e8d7c6a5b. If sharing was never turned on, nothing was sent from that device, so there’s nothing to delete. If you’ve already uninstalled the extension, the Data ID was removed with it; any data it shared is deleted automatically after 24 months.

I understand this permanently deletes all data linked to this ID.
